First held in 1936, and originally called the Ozark Empire Free Fair, Springfield Missouri's Ozark Empire Fair dropped the "Free" in 1940 when an admission charge of 15 cents was introduced. While prices have gone up a little over seven decades, so have audiences, with nearly 220,000 visitors over the fair's ten days.
